



Pilgrimage & Museums
The history of St. Märgen started when monks, attracted by the beautiful landscape, settled down in this site and built up a monastery. To a great extent, these monks were highly educated. They transmitted their profound knowledge to the ordinary people; thus handicrafts, arts and music developed.Today the pilgrims' church "Mariä Himmelfahrt" Assumption of the Virgin Mary) is a place where lots of classical concerts take place; it is also the destination of a great number of pilgrims and hikers.
The monastery museum gives information about clock production, clock trade, reverse glass painting, traditional Black Forest religiousness, the shoemaker's craft and shows the works of the famous monastery sculptor Matthias Faller.
