Riding & Horses
The Southern Black Forest with its fascinating mountains and valleys and traditional Black Forest farms embedded in between is the main breeding area of the famous Black Forest cold-blooded horse ”Schwarzwälder Fuchs”. St. Märgen is one of the principal breeding centres of this race.
the traditional ”Rossfest”
It's part of a long tradition, the celebration of the ”Rossfest” in St. Märgen. It takes place every three years
(2013, 2016, 2019, ...)
always on the 2nd Sunday in September and is celebrated with awardings, horse shows and a historical horse procession. In St. Märgen there are - of course - still other horse events.
The famous breed ”Schwarzwälder Fuchs”
This proud and sturdy cold-blooded horse of medium weight and size has gained a status of cultural value in Baden-Württemberg. During the last years, this horse race has become more and more popular — in Germany and abroad. The ”Schwarzwälder Fuchs” is a noble horse, undemanding, long-lived and still fertile at old age. Its features are: toughness, best character traits as well as sweeping movements.
The St. Märgen riding ground is next to the festival ground, north of the park. It is also the training area of the St. Märgen Riding Club and the place where — in the course of the numerous horse festivals — awardings, horse presentations and coach competitions take place.
