The village of St. Märgen - a monastery foundation of 1118 - is situated on a plateau between Mount Kandel and Mount Feldberg. From here, monks started settlement of the Upper Black Forest. By so doing, they left a permanent cultural heritage. The monastery church and church yard are still original symbols of the well-known place of pilgrimage in honour of the Virgin Mary. This place stands for silence, contemplation and meditation in a natural, unspoiled landscape with magnificent panoramic views.
We invite you to restful walking and hiking paths in a varied nature. St. Märgen, home of the original Black Forest clock, offers a clock museum, a local history museum, presentations of typical Black Forest tradition, music and sporting events - in summer and in winter. Everyone who knows and loves the horse race "Schwarzwälder Füchse" fully enjoys this village on top of Black Forest mountain ranges. The different horse events are a good opportunity to have a look at these horses and to always learn something new about them.
For the "little ones" we have an adventure playground and a special kids' programme.
St. Märgen is an ideal starting point for excursions on foot, by bike, car or bus. You have a vast range of facilities at your feet.
Be welcome - and feel at ease.
